Matheus Pereira was named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of Week today.
The Sao Paulo, Brazil native helped Wichita State in their 6-1 victories over Bradley and Illinois State by going undefeated in all competition. He defeated Juan Diego Cuadrado of Bradley 6-2, 6-1 and Alexander Pelaez of Illinois State 4-6, 6-3, 10-3, both at the No. 1 singles position. Pereira has a record of 16-9 on the season in singles play, including 10-5 in dual matches.
In doubles play, he and his partner Tin Ostojic moved their MVC record to a perfect 4-0 by defeating Juan Diego Cuadrado and Hamish Weeransinghe of Bradley, 8-5, and Erik Brunskog and Muddappa Appanervanda of Illinois State, 8-4, both at the No. 1 position. The duo has a record of 17-3 in doubles competition on the season and Pereira is a stellar 27-7 on the season.
Pereira will play the last home match of his Shocker career on Saturday, April 20 against Southern Illinois. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
