Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- Cleanthony Early scored 16 points and grabbed
eight rebounds to lead Wichita State past Missouri State 79-50 on Saturday
night at Charles Koch Arena.
Nick Wiggins added 11 points for the Shockers. Malcolm
Armstead and Tekele Cotton scored 10 points apiece and dished out five and four
assists, respectively. Ehimen Orukpe pulled down 10 rebounds.
Marcus Marshall scored 19 points to led Missouri State in
scoring. Anthony Downing added nine points.
Carl Hall scored the first five points of the game for
Wichita State (20-5, 9-4) and back-to-back 3-pointers by Demetric Williams and
Tekele Cotton put the Shockers up, 14-9 at the first media timeout.
Anthony Downing hit a 3-pointer of his own for Missouri
State (7-18, 5-8), then on the next play, took the ball to the bucket to cut
the Shocker lead to 16-14 with 13:55 remaining in the half.
After Ehimen Orukpe missed a free throw, Cleanthony Early
grabbed the offensive rebound and made a layup to put Wichita State up 26-20 at
the 8:00 mark. Four minutes later, Nick Wiggins hit his first three of the game
to give the Shockers an 11-point advantage, 32-21.
Four free throws and a 3-pointer by Early stretched the lead
to 42-25 with :57 remaining in the half.
Wichita State went into the half up 42-27 and shot 14-for-29
(.483) from the field, including a blistering 7-for-11 (.636) from behind the
arc. They outrebounded the Bears 21-12. Cleanthony Early led the way with 11
points, shooting 3-for-6 from the field, 1-for-3 from 3-point land and 4-for-4
from the free throw line.
Williams started a 10-0 run for the Shockers at 16:18 mark
of the second half when he nailed a pull-up jumper. The run was capped by a
pair of Wiggins free throws that put Wichita State up 53-30 with 12:39
remaining in the game.
Orukpe dunked the ball off his own missed free throw to put
the Shockers up 61-37 at the 9:07 mark. Five minutes later, Fred VanVleet gave
the Shockers a 28-point advantage when he hit a 3-pointer that stretched the
lead to 74-46.
The Shockers shot 29-for-59 (.492) from the field for the
game, including 9-for-20 (.450) from behind the arc and held Missouri State to
16-for-51 (.314).
Wichita State will host Drake at Charles Koch Arena on
Wednesday, February 13. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on
