SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -
Wichita State dropped a 4-0 decision to SEC member Mississippi State in the
Shockers lone game Saturday at the Blues City Classic in Southaven, Miss.
Mississippi State (7-4) pitcher Alison Owen struck out 15
and allowed two hits on her way to the complete game victory. The transfer from
the University of Georgia had at least two strikeouts in every inning but the
fourth.
Wichita State (4-8) freshman Brittany Fortner registered
both of the Shocker hits in the game with a double down each foul line. Each
was negated by strikeouts by Owen.
The Bulldogs scored a single run in the first, third,
fourth, and sixth innings in what was another solid performance from Wichita
State senior Katie Armagost in the pitching circle. It was Armagost's fifth
complete game of the season, only three shy of her total from all of 2012.
Wichita State will finish up play in the Blues City Classic
on Sunday at 9 a.m. against Samford. Follow live stats of the game here.
