Box Score TULSA, Okla. - Wichita State earned its first win of the
season with a 5-4 victory at Oral Roberts.
Casey Gillaspie went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a double and a
triple, while Erik Harbutz went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Reliever Albert Minnis earned the win as he
went two innings and gave up two unearned runs.
Reliever Brandon Peterson struck out the final batter of the game to
record his first save.
ORU jumped on the board in the first after Logan Domenico
singled to lead off the inning. After a
sacrifice bunt and a pop up, Matt Brandy singled to centerfield for the 1-0
lead.
A solo home run for Chris Williams in the fourth increased
the lead to 2-0, but the Shocks answered in the fifth. After Erik Harbutz reached on an error to
lead off the inning, Tyler Baker singled and Dayne Parker singled to load the
bases. Mikel Mucha's sac fly to left
field scored Harbutz to cut the lead to 2-1.
Casey Gillaspie tripled down the right field line with one
out in the sixth and Johnny Coy reached first base on a wild pitch and
strikeout and advanced to second on another wild pitch. With two outs, Harbutz singled through the
right side to score both Gillaspie and Coy for a 3-2 Shocker lead.
The Golden Eagles tied it at three in the bottom of the
sixth with an unearned run and took a 4-3 lead with another unearned run in the
seventh.
The Shockers wasted no time tying the game at four as Tanner
Dearman led off the eighth with a walk and scored on a double down the right
field line by Gillaspie. After a
groundout moved Gillaspie to third, Bayliff grounded out to score Gillaspie and
give the Shocks a 5-4 lead.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Feb. 22 when they
host a doubleheader with Delaware starting at 1 p.m.
