CHICAGO - Wichita State's senior standout Kevin Hall is a finalist for the "Fan's Choice Award presented by TD Ameritrade", Intersport announced today. The "Fan's Choice Award" goes beyond the stat sheet to honor and recognize college baseball players who are positive role models both on and off the field, exemplifying core values like teamwork and integrity, as well as the drive to win. The winner will be determined by fans through Facebook voting and will be honored at the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Over his career with the Shockers, Hall has been a leader on and off the field. A native of Springfield, Ill., Hall already has a degree in exercise science and is working on his second degree in chemistry. He's been named a First Team All-Valley Scholar-Athlete, a member of the Capital One Academic All-District VII Baseball Team and earned the Wichita State Senior Honor Man Award for his leadership and service to the WSU community. On the field, Hall's team-first attitude is easy to recognize since he holds the Wichita State all-time record for sacrifice hits with 21.
Hall has been incredibly active in his community over the years. He's helped with Koyie Hill's Big Wish/Make a Wish Foundation, taught children baseball skills at Shocker Baseball Camps, read to children in the Valley's Just Read program and helped build houses destroyed by a tornado in Greenburg, Kan.
"Kevin's leadership qualities are second to none in my 35 years at Wichita State," said WSU baseball head coach Gene Stephenson. "He is exemplary in every way on and off the field and is an outstanding student, teammate, and citizen in the community and is a joy to watch on the field."
"The Fan's Choice Award" is the only college baseball award that is completely determined by fans. Fans who participate in the voting also have a unique opportunity to win: Each vote submitted is an automatic entry into a sweepstakes that will send one lucky fan on a VIP trip for two to the 2013 National Championship Series. Fans can vote once per day starting today. The winner will be randomly selected.
