WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita State men's and women's track
& field teams are both ranked seventh in the Midwest Region, according to
the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
rankings released Tuesday.
The Shocker women maintained their position from last week's
rankings, while the Wichita State men moved up two spots.
Nebraska is the top-ranked men's team in the region,
followed by Oklahoma, Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois in the top five. Kansas is
the top-ranked Midwest team in the women's rankings, followed by Nebraska,
Illinois, Kansas State and Oklahoma.
Florida is the nation's top men's team and Texas is the No.
1 women's team this week.
According to
the USTFCCCA, the "Regional Index is determined using a similar method as
national rankings, but on a smaller scale, comparing teams versus others within
the same region. The result is a ranking that showcases squads with better
all-around team potential - a group makeup critical for conference or similar
team-scored events. A team may achieve a better regional ranking than a
counterpart that has a better national ranking."
Shocker
junior Aliphine Tuliamuk ranks among the top-10 NCAA seeds in two events
individually this week. The Kapenguria, Kenya native holds the nation's fourth-fastest
time in the women's 10,000 meters (32:39.35) and fifth-fastest time in the
women's 5K (15:26.07).
The Shockers
next compete at the Arkansas Twilight Friday, May 4 before hosting the State
Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships May 11-13 at Cessna
Stadium.
