CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Shocker men's tennis team won their
first conference match of the season, 6-1, over Southern Illinois on Saturday
afternoon. The win moves their overall record to 12-4 on the season.
The Shockers would go up a point early by capturing the
doubles point from the Salukis. The two teams split the first two matches, but
then David Cavalcanti and Matheus Pereira defeated Brandon Florez and Stanislas
Rodier, 9-8 (7-5), to put the Shockers up, 1-0.
The success continued in the singles competition, as the
Shockers won five out of six contests to take the match.
"It was good to get our first conference win of the season,"
said head coach Brad Louderback. "We still have some things to work on, but
this is a good win."
The Shocker men are back in action next weekend when they
come home for matches against Bradley on Saturday, April 14th and
Illinois State on Sunday, April 15th. Both matches will be played at
the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
