Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- Seven Shockers had multi-hit games to lead the
Wichita State baseball team to a 13-3 win over Dallas Baptist in the first game
of a three-game series on Friday night at Eck stadium.
Josh Smith got the win on the mound for the Shockers. He pitched
seven innings, allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four.
Johnny Coy went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI at the
plate. Ryan Hege went 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.
Dallas Baptist took the lead off the first pitch of the game
when Austin Elkins hit a homerun over the left field wall.
The Shockers would answer and take the lead in their half of
the first. Back-to-back groundouts by Don Lambert and Johnny Coy scored Erik
Harbutz and Dayne Parker to put Wichita State up, 2-1.
Wichita State added another run in the second inning when
Ryan Hege hit his fourth homerun of the season.
A four-run third would break the game open for the Shockers.
Erik Harbutz led off the inning with a double, then, after a Dayne Parker walk,
Don Lambert singled to center to score Harbutz. Two batters later, Parker
scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Ryan Hege would knock in the final
two runs for the Shockers in the inning when he singled to score Coy and
Lambert to put Wichita State up, 7-1.
The Shockers added two more runs in the fourth on a RBI
groundout by Dayne Parker and a single by Johnny Coy.
The Patriots added a run in the sixth on a groundout by Nash
Knight to cut the Shocker lead to, 9-2.
Wichita State answered back in their half of the sixth when
Johnny Coy hit a double that scored Don Lambert and Erik Harbutz.
Mikel Mucha got a two RBI single of his own in the eighth
inning to stretch the lead to 13-2.
Joel Hutter homered for the Patriots in the top of the
ninth.
The Shockers will take on Dallas Baptist on Saturday at 2
p.m. for game two of the series at Eck Stadium.
