WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State track & field
student-athletes divide up this weekend to compete in three meets.
The majority of the men's and women's teams will travel to
Lawrence, Kan., for the Kansas Relays today through Saturday. Six Shockers will travel to the Mt. SAC
Relays in Walnut, Calif., Friday and Saturday, while Shocker pole vaulters will
compete in Fayetteville, Ark., at the John McDonnell Invitational Saturday
afternoon.
In California, junior All-American Aliphine Tuliamuk is
scheduled to run in the women's 5,000 meters at 9:40 p.m. CDT Friday at Hilmer
Lodge Stadium. Tuliamuk currently owns the third-fastest time in the nation
this season in the women's 10K (32:39.35).
Junior Tomas Cotter is slated to compete in the men's
3,000-meter steeplechase at 6:10 p.m. CDT Thursday on the west coast. His
season-best time of 8:51.88 in the event ranks ninth nationally this season.
Wichita State hurdlers Todd McKown, Lawson Montgomery, Cory
Beenken and Cooper Hanning will run in Mt. SAC Relays events Friday and
Saturday, including the 110-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay and shuttle
hurdles. Montgomery and McKown, the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Track
Athlete of the Week, hold the nation's 11th and 12th-fastest
times of the season, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.
Tanya Friesen (heptathlon) and Austin Bahner (decathlon)
each hold points totals that rank among the nation's top-20 this season. They
will compete at the Kansas Relays this weekend.
Both the
Wichita State men's and women's track & field teams remain ranked among the
Midwest Region's top 10 this week, according to the latest U.S. Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings. The Shocker men
maintained their No. 4 spot, while the WSU women retained their No. 9 ranking
in the Midwest.
