Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Wichita State used back-to-back five run
innings to take the final game of the series from Evansville, 14-9.
Gillaspie went 4-for-6 with five RBI and two home runs,
while Johnny Coy went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Dayne Parker went 4-for-6.
Reliever TJ McGreevy earned the win as he went 3.1 shutout
innings.
Gillaspie and Micah Green led off the second inning with
back-to-back home runs to put the Shocks in front 2-0.
The lead did not last long as Shocker starter Albert Minnis
hit the first two batters in the second inning and walked the third before
giving up a grand slam to Trentt Copeland for a 4-2 Aces lead.
The Shocks tacked on another run in the fourth. Micah Green
led off the fourth with a single and advanced to second on a ground ball. With two outs, Tyler Baker singled to
shortstop and Green came around to score on a throwing error by the UE
shortstop to pull WSU within 4-3.
Dayne Parker doubled with one out in the fifth and Johnny
Coy singled him in to tie the score at four.
The Aces answered with four runs in the fifth and one in the
sixth to go back in front 9-4.
The Shockers tied the score at nine in the seventh using a
two-run single from Gillaspie, an RBI double from Erik Harbutz and a two-run
double by Mikel Mucha to tie the score.
WSU scored five runs on five hits in the eighth inning
including Gillaspie's second homer of the day as the Shocks went in front 14-9.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., April 13 when they
host Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
