Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii - Wichita State snapped its three-game
losing streak with a 4-2 win over Hawaii in the final game of a four-game
series.
Garrett Bayliff went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a double. Starter Kris Gardner improved to 3-0 on the year. He went five innings and gave up two runs on
six hits with four strikeouts. Cale Elam
pitched 2.1 shutout innings for his first save of the year.
WSU took its first lead in the series in the second
inning. Erik Harbutz doubled to right
center with one out and with two outs Josh Halbert walked to put runners at
first and second. Garrett Bayliff then
doubled in Harbutz and an error by the Hawaii third baseman gave the Shocks a
2-0 lead.
Hawaii answered with a run in the bottom of the second. Zack Swasey doubled with one out and scored
on a two-out single by Kaeo Aliviado to cut the lead to 2-1.
Casey Gillaspie led off the third inning with a single to
centerfield and Don Lambert's single up the middle advanced Gillaspie to third. Lambert also moved into scoring position on
the throw and Harbutz drove in Gillaspie with a sac fly to right field to give
WSU a 3-1 lead. Dayne Parker then
singled to centerfield to drive in Lambert for a 4-1 Shocker lead.
The Rainbows cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the fourth.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., March 6 when they
host UT-Arlington at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
