WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State men's tennis team will play
host to Washburn on Saturday, March 31st at the Sheldon Coleman
Tennis Complex. First serve is set for noon.
The Washburn Ichabods (6-4) are coming into the match off a
loss to Cowley County, who the Shockers beat, 7-0, earlier in the season. Chance
Joost is 7-2 on the season, playing in the number six position. Before taking
on the Shockers, Washburn will play a match against Rockhurst.
The No. 73 Wichita State Shockers (10-4) are coming off a long break,
as their games against South Alabama and Troy were canceled last week. Last
time out, they split weekend matches, falling against No. 43 Arkansas, 5-2, and
defeating No. 65 Southern Mississippi, 6-1.
Junior Matheus Pereira is 11-2 in dual match competition,
including winning seven straight and nine out of his last ten. Guillermo Nicol
has a perfect record of 8-0 in dual matches this season, playing three of his
matches in the number three position, and five in the four position.
In doubles, David Cavalcanti and Matheus Pereira are 10-3 is
dual matches and have won eight out of their last ten contests.
After Saturday, the Shockers will play their first
conference match of the season when they travel to Carbondale,
Ill. to take on Southern Illinois.
