Terre Haute, Ind. - A poor second-half from the field doomed
the Wichita State women's basketball team to a 63-51 defeat at Indiana State
Sunday afternoon. The Shockers shot just
26.7% (8-for-30) from the field while the Sycamores connected on 63.2%
(12-for-19) of their shots from the floor after halftime.
Wichita State led 29-27 at halftime on the strength of a
solid rebounding foundation. Indiana
State scored the first six points after the break with the help of two Shannon
Thomas baskets in the paint and though the Shockers tied the score twice after
that, WSU never regained the lead.
A Jessica Diamond pull-up jumper knotted the score at 42
with 10:57 to go before Indiana State reeled off a decisive 14-2 run over the
next 5:22.
Haleigh Lankster led the Shockers with 13 points but did not
score after halftime. Kelsey Jacobs
recorded a career-high nine points in 21 minutes off the bench.
Three Sycamores put in double figures with Deja Mattox leading
the way with 17 points. Shannon Thomas
added 15 points and Anna Munn netted 13.
The Shockers wrap up the regular season with home games
against Bradley (Thurs., March 1, 7:05 p.m.) and Northern Iowa (Sat., March 3,
2:05 p.m.) at Koch Arena.
