WACO, Texas- The
Wichita State softball team fell to Arkansas, 8-0 in five innings, in their
final game at the Baylor Tournament in Waco, Texas. A seven-run second inning
by Arkansas proved to be the Shockers undoing and an insurmountable deficit.
The seven-run Arkansas (4-1) second inning began with
back-to-back solo home runs by the Razorbacks Amanda Geile and Jennifer Rambo
off of Shocker starter Sloan Anderson. Anderson, looking for her third
consecutive complete game for Wichita State (1-4) was replaced by Katie
Armagost to close out the frame.
The Shockers were unable to string together hits off of
Arkansas starter Chelsea Cohen who threw all five innings with six strikeouts
to earn her first decision of the season. Junior Sammie Shook and freshman Sydney
Stuever each had a double for Wichita State.
Wichita State will travel to Denton, Texas, Feb. 17-19, for
five games beginning with a 3 p.m. game on Friday against Sam Houston State.
