Shocks Take Down Ole Miss, 3-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Wichita State won the final match of the Crowne Plaza Cardinal Classic by defeating Ole Miss, 3-1.  The Shockers (3-3) won by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-19.

Emily Adney led the Shockers with 13 kills and hit .343 in the match.  Camri Zwiesler had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Mary Elizabeth Hooper had eight kills, 36 assists and nine digs and Sarah Waldorf had 20 digs.

Ole Miss jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first set, but the Shockers came back to tie it at five on a kill by Ashley Andrade.  Four-straight points by the Rebels put them up 13-9, but the Shockers answered with four-straight to tie it at 13.  The two teams went back-and-forth until three-straight Shocker points put WSU up 19-16.  WSU continued to lead the rest of the way and won the set 25-21 on a kill by Sam Sanders.

The second set went back-and-forth until Ole Miss grabbed a 14-11 lead.  Kills by Andrade and Camri Zwiesler tied the score at 14, but the Rebels went back in front 18-15.  Ole Miss continued to lead the rest of the way and won the set 25-22.

The Rebels took another early lead in the third set at 4-0.  The Shockers fought back to tie it at four on a kill by Sanders.  A Rebel hitting error gave the Shocks their first lead of the set at 5-4 and an Andrade kill increased the lead to 8-6.  The Shockers scored three-straight off a kill from Emily Adney, a service ace from Andrade and a block by Elizabeth Field and Adney to make the score 13-8.  Back-to-back Andrade kills increased the lead to 18-11 and the Shocks won the set 25-17.

An Adney kill put the Shocks in front 10-5 in the fourth set and back-to-back kills from Hooper increased the lead to 19-12.  Ole Miss cut the lead to 20-17 with three-straight kills, but the Shocks won the set 25-19 on a kill by Andrade.

Andrade and Waldorf both earned all-tournament team honors.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 9 at Colorado State.
