Wichita State travels to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on Florida Atlantic on Fri., Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. CT and to Tampa, Fla., to take on South Florida on Sun., Nov. 2 at 12 p.m. CT.

SCENE SETTERS
•Wichita State is coming off a 1-1 weekend after defeating Tulane in four sets on Friday and losing in five sets to North Texas on Sunday.
•WSU leads the series with Florida Atlantic 2-1.
•Wichita State leads the series with South Florida 10-1.
•Redshirt senior right side hitter Brooklyn Leggett has a streak of 13 matches with 10 or more kills. She collected her 500th kill as a Shocker in the Oct. 19 match at Rice.
•Leggett had her first career double-double in the match against North Texas on Oct. 26. She finished with 16 kills and a career-high 16 digs.
•The Shockers finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with an 8-4 record. 
•WSU had 2,681 fans in attendance at the Kansas match on Sept. 16. It was the largest home attendance since 2023.
•The Shockers tied a program record by allowing just four points in the first set against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 11.
•The Shockers are coming off an 18-14 season in 2024 that culminated in a dominant run to the American Conference Tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. 
•The Shockers appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time overall and the first since 2017.
•The Shockers were picked third in the American Conference preseason poll. Rice was tabbed as the conference's preseason favorite, garnering nine first place votes to South Florida's four. Brooklyn Leggett was named preseason all-conference.
•Wichita State returns three starters and the libero from the 2024 team including senior outside hitters Brooklyn Leggett and Emerson Wilford, junior middle blocker Maddie Wilson and senior libero Katie Galligan. 
•Head coach Chris Lamb is in his 26th season at the helm of the Shockers. Known affectionately as "Lambo," the veteran head coach owns a career record of 540-258, good for a .678 winning percentage and the most wins in the American Conference.

WEEKEND RECAP    
•The Shockers defeated Tulane 3-1 on Friday and lost to North Texas 2-3 on Sunday.
•Against Tulane, the Shockers won by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-20. Brooklyn Leggett led the Shockers with 20 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 35 assists and Katie Galligan had 17 digs.
•Against North Texas, the Mean Green won by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 14-25, 23-25 and 16-14. Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 18 kills, while Jordan Heatherly had 49 assists and Grace Hett had 24 digs.
•In the two matches, Leggett averaged 4.00 kills per set, while Heatherly averaged 9.33 assists per set and Hett averaged 4.11 digs per set.

SHOCKS IN THE NCAA STATS    
•In the October 30 NCAA stat report, the Shockers are ranked 58th in assists per set, 72nd in digs per set, 39th in kills per set, 82nd in opponent hitting percentage, 43rd in team assists, 56th in team attacks per set, 63rd in team digs, 32nd in team kills, 99th in team service aces and 62nd in team total attacks.
•Individually, Jordan Heatherly is 74th in total assists, Sydney Dunning is 74th in points, 64th in total attacks and 65th in total kills, and Maddie Wilson is 65th in blocks per set and 31st in total blocks.

RPI UPDATE    
•The fourth RPI report of the season was released on October 27. The Shockers are 79th, while Florida Atlantic is 72 and South Florida is 27.
•South Florida is the top American team at 27, while the American has seven teams in the top-100.
•WSU is 0-4 against the top-50 and 2-7 against the top-100.

LEGGETT & HEATHERLY NAMED TO HONOR ROLL    
•Wichita State volleyball student-athletes Brooklyn Leggett and Jordan Heatherly have been named to the American Conference Honor Roll for the week of Oct. 20-26.
•Leggett, a redshirt senior right-side hitter from Draper, Utah, averaged 4.00 kills per set, 2.00 digs per set and 0.67 blocks per set, while hitting .333.
•In the four-set win over Tulane, she finished with a season-best 20 kills, while hitting .474. She also added two digs and two blocks. In the five-set loss to North Texas, she finished with her first career double-double. She had 16 kills and a career-high 16 digs. She also added four blocks.
•Heatherly, a junior setter from Western Springs, Ill., averaged 9.33 assists per set, 0.33 service aces per set, 2.33 digs per set and 0.78 blocks per set. 
•In the four-set win over Tulane, she finished with a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs. She also added three kills, three service aces and two blocks. In the five-set loss to North Texas, she finished with 49 assists, nine digs, five blocks and a kill.

LAST 13 FOR BROOKLYN    
•The Shockers are 8-5 in their last 13 matches and during that span Brooklyn Leggett has averaged 3.44 kills per set and 1.02 blocks per set, while hitting .286. She has a streak of 13-straight matches with 10 or more kills. 

WSU-FAU SERIES    
•Wichita State leads the overall series with Florida Atlantic, 2-1. The Owls lead the series in Boca Raton, 1-0. Head Coach Chris Lamb is 2-1 against the Owls.
•The last meeting between the two teams was Nov. 24, 2024, in the championship of the American Conference Championship with the Shockers winning 3-0.
•In that meeting, the Shockers won by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19.
•Brooklyn Leggett led the Shockers with 13 kills, while Izzi Strand had 31 assists and Katie Galligan had 15 digs.

SCOUTING THE OWLS    
•Florida Atlantic is 16-7 overall this season and 7-3 in the American with wins over Kent State, Western Carolina, North Florida, Marshall, Southern Indiana, Brown, George Washington, Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, East Carolina twice, North Texas, Temple twice, Memphis and UAB and losses to Texas Tech, Michigan, Arkansas State, UCF, South Florida, and Charlotte twice.
•Olivia Hart leads the Owls with 3.73 kills per set, while Emsley Venard averages 6.10 assists per set and Isabelle Northram averages 4.22 digs per set. 
•Florida Atlantic finished 18-13 in 2024 and 8-8 in the American.
•Head coach Fernanda Nelson is in her 15th season with FAU.

WSU-SOUTH FLORIDA SERIES    
•Wichita State leads the overall series with South Florida, 10-1. The Shockers lead the series in Tampa, 3-0. Head Coach Chris Lamb is 10-1 against the Bulls.  
•The last meeting between the two teams was Nov. 23, 2024, in the semifinals of the American Conference Championship with the Shockers winning 3-0.
•In that meeting, the Shockers won by scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-22.
•Morgan Stout led the Shockers with 11 kills, while Izzi Strand had 30 assists and 13 digs.

SCOUTING THE BULLS    
•South Florida is 13-8 overall this season and 9-1 in the American with wins over Florida State, South Carolina, Dayton, Omaha, Florida Atlantic, East Carolina twice, Temple twice , North Texas, Tulane, and Charlotte twice and losses to Purdue, Tennessee, No. 12 Florida, No. 13 Minnesota, South Dakota State, No. 18 Creighton, No. 17 Kansas and Rice. 
•Maria Clara Andrade leads the Bulls with 4.22 kills per set, while Raegan Richardson averages 9.17 assists per set and Samiha Foster averages 3.91 digs per set.
•USF finished 19-10 in 2024 and 14-2 in the American.
•Head coach Jolene Shepardson is in her sixth season with North Texas.

CAREER-HIGHS    
•The Shockers had five players with career-highs over the weekend.
•Katie Galligan had a career-high three service aces against North Texas on Oct. 26.
•Jordan Heatherly had a career-high five blocks against North Texas on Oct. 26.
•Grace Hett had a career-high 23 digs against North Texas on Oct. 26.
•Brooklyn Leggett had a career-high 43 attack attempts and 16 digs against North Texas on Oct. 26.
•Sarah Musial had a career-high two attack attempts and four digs against Tulane on Oct. 24.

UP NEXT
