Cross Country Women Ranked 13th in Midwest

NEW ORLEANS - The Wichita State women's cross country team is ranked 13th in the Midwest Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I rankings, released Monday.

The Shockers, who held 12th on last week's rankings, are one of two Missouri Valley Conference teams in the region's top-15. Illinois State holds 12th in the region this week.

Iowa State retains the region's top position, followed by No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Minnesota, No. 4 Iowa and No. 5 Tulsa. Kansas, Northwestern, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas State round out the top 10 teams in the Midwest.

The Shockers most recently competed in the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational Sept. 17. Aliphine Tuliamuk picked up her second victory in as many meets this season, winning the women's 6,000-meter race in 21:09. The Shocker women finished third out of 25 teams and the Shocker men finished fourth out of 28 teams.

Wichita State cross country next competes Friday, Sept. 30 in the ESU Invitational in Emporia, Kan., and Saturday, Oct. 1 in the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Ore.

The next USTFCCCA regional rankings are scheduled to be released Oct. 3.
