Wichita, Kan. - Senior David Cavalcanti has been named team
captain of the Wichita State men's tennis team for the 2011-12 season Head
Coach Brad Louderback announced Thursday.
"David will be the first captain that I have had during my
time as coach here at WSU and he has earned it," Louderback said. "He will be an outstanding leader to
our team and will provide great leadership to our younger players."
Cavalcanti, a native of Porto Allegre, Brazil has over 60
victories in his Shocker career and has played in every singles position. The left-hander won the No. 2 position
at the Missouri Valley Conference Individuals last season and he earned
all-conference honors in both singles and doubles his sophomore year.
"I am honored to be a captain this season," Cavalcanti
said. "Being a captain is not an
easy job and it carries great responsibility but I'm ready to continue to do
things the right way and I'm excited for the season to start."
Wichita State will start the fall season at the Razorback
Invitational on September 23-25.
