WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State baseball student-athlete Cale
Elam has been named a first team Freshman All-American by the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Elam, a right-handed pitcher from Oktaha, Okla., made 28
appearances out of the bullpen for the Shockers in 2011. He went 4-1 with a 1.23 ERA and five
saves. In 44.0 innings pitched, he
allowed just 23 hits with 32 strikeouts.
He earned second team all-Valley honors.
His 1.23 ERA ranks first in the Shocker record books for ERA
by a freshman and his 28 appearances ranks second.
It is his second Freshman All-America honor, as he was also
named to the first team by Collegiate Baseball.
