ZIONSVILLE, Ind. - The Wichita State University men's golf
team returns to the links Thursday at the NCAA Central Regional, hosted by
Indiana University.  The Shockers
are coming off a fourth consecutive Missouri Valley Conference title. 
Three sophomores, a redshirt freshman and a true freshman
make up the WSU roster.  Four
different Shockers have led the team in scoring this year, with Tyler Gann
tying for first at the MVC Championship. 
Wichita State landed three golfers on the all-conference team. 
Redshirt freshman Eliot Soyez gets the Shockers started on Thursday with
a 9:10 a.m. tee time at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind.  Wolf Run is a par-71, 7,025-yard course
conceived by Dr. Jack Leer and was recently rated the No. 18 Best Modern Course
in America by Golfweek. 
The impressive tournament field includes No. 3 Alabama, No.
11 Illinois, No.18 Iowa, No, 21 Stanford, No. 23 Tennessee, No. 26 Wake Forest,
No. 37 Indiana, No. 41 Florida State, No. 53 Michigan, No. 59 Charlotte, No. 63
Memphis, No. 101 Ball State, No. 119 Miami of Ohio, No. 120 UMKC, No. 141
IUPUI, No. 146 Murray State, No. 188 Eastern Kentucky, and No. 212 Sacred
Heart.  The Shockers are ranked No.
112 nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and enter the tournament as the
No. 12 seed.  
Alabama's Bud Cauley is the top-rated individual, checking
in at No. 6 in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.  Teammate Cory Whitsett is ranked No.
10.  Iowa's Vince India (13),
Illinois' Luke Guthrie (18), Tennessee's Robin Wingardh (24) and Alabama's
Bobby Wyatt (25) are also rated in the top 25.  
The top five teams and the top individual from a team that does not advance will move on to the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla.  Wichita State is attempting to reach
the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2004 and for the ninth time in
school history.
