Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Wichita State advanced to the semifinals of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with a 70-56 win against Bradley Friday at Scottrade Center. Junior center Garrett Stutz led the Shockers with 16 points in the quarterfinal men's basketball win.
The No. 2-seeded Shockers (24-7) will play in the semifinals at 4:05 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Friday's 8:35 p.m. Indiana State-Evansville quarterfinal.
Shocker junior guard Joe Ragland scored 11 points for Wichita State, which shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) overall. Senior forward Gabe Blair pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds as the Shockers out-rebounded Bradley, 39-29.
Senior guard Andrew Warren led Bradley with 17 points. The No.-10 seeded Braves, who beat Drake in Thursday's first round to play the Shockers Friday, finished the season with a 12-20 record.
A jumper from Stutz and two free throws from Blair put the Shockers ahead, 11-6, with 15:24 on the clock in the first half. A 5-0 Bradley run tied the score, 11-11.
The Shockers later took an eight-point lead on two made free throws from Stutz with 4:37 left in the first half. The free throws completed a 6-0 Shocker run.
Bradley cut Wichita State's lead to four points, 26-22, with 3:36 left in the half. The Shockers answered with a 9-0 run to close the first half.
The Shockers took a 35-22 lead into halftime, paced by 11 points and four rebounds from Stutz. David Kyles, a junior guard, scored seven points and Blair added six points and four rebounds.
Warren led Bradley with eight points and Dodie Dunson had seven points.
Wichita State shot 14-for-28 (50 percent) in the opening 20 minutes and out-rebounded Bradley, 18-14.
The Shockers opened the second half with a layup and jumper from Durley for a 39-22 edge.
A 3-pointer from Demetric Williams at the 15:53 mark gave the Shockers a 20-point lead.
Two Stutz free throws later pushed Wichita State to a 21-point lead.
Bradley cut the Shockers' lead to 11 points on a three-point play from Dyricus Simms-Edwards at the 5:48 mark.
A 3-pointer from Warren with 1:48 remaining brought Bradley to a 10-point deficit.
Two free throws each from senior Graham Hatch and Ragland closed the game for the Shockers.
Friday's win marked the third by the Shockers against Bradley this season. Wichita State also beat the Braves in two regular-season meetings.
