Post-Game Press Conference Quotes

Student-Athlete: Kayla Tetschlag
On her awareness of Chastity Reed's third foul…
“I don't think that it was the third foul that affected my decision, I think that we just got a couple of layups off our secondary break earlier and we just continued to get it inside. We knew she was a scorer, but we were going to try and make her defend too.”

On high-scoring performances in NCAA tournament games…
“I like the high level of competition and I feel like our team has been playing great all year. I was just excited to get to this point. We are a really talented team so I knew my girls were right behind me and I can't explain it, I guess. I just get those extra butterflies before the game that gets me going.”

Head Coach Matt Bolant
Opening Statement…
“Pleased with our team, obviously start of the game, give UALR a lot of credit for how they came out. We were down 15 to 8 early in the game, and they were getting by us off the dribble. I thought the buzz defense really switched the momentum in the first half. Our ability to get stops in that and get them out of rhythm was huge. I thought Kayla was unbelievable throughout the game. When we needed a basket, needed a play made she was there and has done it time after time in her career. She has been unbelievable in big games and to see her step up when we had to have her was really special.”

On how fun the close game situation was…
“One of the things we say a lot is enjoy the fight. We just kept saying that, even when they were up 15-8 and even the second half. You want other teams to step up and make plays and have to earn it. The heart is what makes it great, so as a coaching staff you can't tell your players that and then shy away from the competition or not enjoy the competition.”

On how UALR handled Green Bay's guards…
“One of the things I think they did early is that they got into us, I think we were open in the first half and we just had trouble seeing. We did a better job of screening and one of the things we talked about during halftime is creating space on your cuts.”

“We did a better job of moving the basketball quicker and being able to have some space.”

On this being a statement game for mid-majors…
“I have a lot of respect for their program, last year they came in as an 11-seed and we came in as a 12-seed and both knocked people off. Earlier today when we saw each other we said it's too bad we have to play each other because certainly both teams are capable of knocking off some teams and making a run.”

“It was a hard-faught, tough game and sometimes that doesn't always make it look pretty. The level of play and the intensity, how hard both teams played I thought was a very high level and I'm excited to come out of that on top.”

Advantage because Kayla (Tetschlag) and Chastity (Reed, UALR) canceled each other out...
“They had the toughness to step up and we talked about that in the locker room a lot, in this game they're going to make plays and the team that wins this game is going to be the team that can let that last play go and have the toughness to go make a play in the second half. And I thought Celeste did that. She had a very frustrating first half and even the first part of the second half. And then when she knocked down that three it was like the rest of our team was like 'oh Celeste is okay, we're okay.' And we went from that point.”

Locker Room Quotes

Student Athlete: Sarah Eichler
On winning the first game..
“It feels really good, our coaches I'm sure are already planning for our next game. We are just excited to have one under our belt, we are just going to keep going as far as we can.”

On Green Bay's first half performance:
“The first half we were definitely playing a little rushed, we just talked about how we needed to get the ball inside and just play offense like we normally do. We just really needed to slow down on both ends. Having game jitters also had a part in it. We just talked about playing hard for 40 minutes and we just talked about playing tough on defense, and that was going to win us the game.”

Student-Athlete: Hannah Quilling
On the halftime locker room discussion…
“Our strategy for coming out in the second half was the same as it's been all year, it's just Green Bay basketball. What we've done is good enough, good enough to get us where we want to go. We went back to basics, and just that defense that we live and die by; just that intensity and that mentality that we have.”

On the team's momentum for second round…
“I think we are really excited to be here and to be in the realm of these great teams. We are just going to keep a level head and play the game that got us here.”
