Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - Sophomore
second baseman Walker Davidson went 2-for-2 and batted in four runs as Wichita
State beat Niagara, 11-1, Saturday at Eck Stadium.
Sophomore
outfielder Garrett Bayliff went 3-for-4 for the Shockers and junior pitcher
Charlie Lowell picked up the win, striking out seven Niagara batters.
Wichita
State improved to 2-0 on the season, while Niagara fell to 0-2 in front of a
crowd of 3,057. The Shockers recorded 14 hits, while Niagara picked up three
errors.
The
Shockers took a 4-0 lead with a three-run second inning Saturday. Bayliff
scored on a balk. Tyler Grimes' double to right center scored Kevin Hall and
Johnny Coy's double to right center later in the inning scored Grimes.
Wichita
State's three-run sixth inning boosted the Shockers to a 9-0 lead. A Davidson
double to right center scored Bayliff. Grimes reached on a throwing error by
the shortstop and advanced to second. Hall advanced to third and Davidson
scored. Preston Springer flied out to right field, scoring Hall also in the
inning.
Niagara's
lone run came in the ninth inning. Eric Hink singled up the middle and scored
Joel Klock.
Adam
Wagner led Niagara with two hits. Pitcher Tyler Spear was credited with the
loss.
The
three-game series concludes with a noon game Sunday at Eck Stadium.
