SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- After losing to Western Kentucky in the morning game, Wichita State (2-3) rallied back and scored four runs in two innings to take down Seattle University (0-5) by the score of 5-2.
Seniors Kiersten Dixon, Jamie Hull, and Heather Gerritse led the Shockers' offense attack all with three hits. Hull finished the game with two hits, two runs, and three RBI.
Katie Armagost got the start in the circle for the Shockers. Through three innings of play, she recorded four strikeouts and held the Redhawks to two hits, while keeping them scoreless. WSU went to work at the plate in the bottom of third. Kiersten Dixon scored on a Jamie Hull single up the middle. Hull then moved to third off of a Heather Gerritse single to right center. Hull stole home right before Danika Miller was picked off at first base. The Shockers took a 2-0 lead into the top of the fourth inning.
Seattle answered with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning. Jessica Ulrich scored off of a Katie Demianew triple to right center. The Shockers maintained a 2-1 lead at the end of four innings. The Redhawks scored another run in the top of the fifth to even the score at 2-2. Sarah Patosa reached by error and then came around to score on a Natalie Leyland fielder's choice.
The game against SU was called by the umpires in the bottom of the fifth inning due to the lack of daylight. At the time of the decision, the score was all tied at 2-2.
After resuming play Sunday morning, the Shockers took the lead, 5-2, immediately in the bottom of the fifth inning. Both Dixon and Rachel Milnark reached by error and then a Hull double brought both of them home. Hull then scored two batters later off of a Holly Eckert single to the outfield.
Hayley Temple led off for the Shockers in the top of the sixth with a triple to right field. Meghan Boston hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to bring Temple home as the Shocks took a 6-2 lead.
Armagost got the win in the circle as she went 7.0 innings and finished the game with six strikeouts.
