ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Joe Ragland and Carl Hall were named MVC Player and Newcomer of the
Week, respectively the league office announced Monday.
Ragland netted a career-high 31 points as WSU
dismantled No. 18 UNLV Rebels, 89-70, in the Mountain West-Missouri Valley
Conference Challenge Sunday afternoon. For the week, he shot 77.8 percent
(14-18) from the field, and 84.6 percent (11-13) from the arc in the two wins.
He also made seven of his eight free throw attempts. Against UNLV, he made
9-of-12 shots, including 8-of-9 from the arc, as the first Shocker player since
Paul Miller in 2006 to score more than 30 points. Against Cal State Fullerton,
he had 15 points of 5-of-6 shooting from the field with three treys.
A junior college transfer for WSU, Hall averaged 18
points and 5.5 rebounds last week in Wichita State's two victories. He scored a
career-high 19 points and had eight rebounds in WSU's win against Cal State
Fullerton on Thursday. The junior forward then had 17 points and three
rebounds against UNLV on 70 percent (7-10) shooting.
Wichita State will return to action on
Wednesday night when travel to Tulsa.
