Hall and Ragland Earn MVC Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Joe Ragland and Carl Hall were named MVC Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively the league office announced Monday.

Ragland netted a career-high 31 points as WSU dismantled No. 18 UNLV Rebels, 89-70, in the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference Challenge Sunday afternoon. For the week, he shot 77.8 percent (14-18) from the field, and 84.6 percent (11-13) from the arc in the two wins. He also made seven of his eight free throw attempts. Against UNLV, he made 9-of-12 shots, including 8-of-9 from the arc, as the first Shocker player since Paul Miller in 2006 to score more than 30 points. Against Cal State Fullerton, he had 15 points of 5-of-6 shooting from the field with three treys.

A junior college transfer for WSU, Hall averaged 18 points and 5.5 rebounds last week in Wichita State's two victories. He scored a career-high 19 points and had eight rebounds in WSU's win against Cal State Fuller­ton on Thursday. The junior forward then had 17 points and three rebounds against UNLV on 70 percent (7-10) shooting.

Wichita State will return to action on Wednesday night when travel to Tulsa.  The game will start at 7 p.m. and can be seen on Kansas-22.
