FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Aliphine Tuliamuk set a Wichita State cross country record as she paced the Shocker women to tie for a seventh-place team finish Saturday at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival at Agri Park.

Tuliamuk finished second overall in the women's 6,000-meters with a time of 20:04.1 in a field of 296 runners. She broke Desiraye Osburn's school record 6K time of 20:17.9, set Oct. 15, 2005.

"I'm happy she broke the record," Wichita State cross country head coach Kirk Hunter said. "Overall we did pretty good. Our first four runners did really well."

The Shockers finished with a score of 215 to finish tied for seventh with Utah out of 34 women's teams in the 23rd annual Chile Pepper Festival. Wichita State entered the meet ranked eighth in the Midwest Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Nationally-ranked No. 17 Texas won the meet with a score of 85, followed by No. 11-ranked Arkansas in second place with 89 points. No. 29-ranked Oklahoma State finished third with 123 points. Missouri Valley Conference opponent Missouri State finished 12th overall.

Southern Methodist's Silje Fjortoft won the women's 6K in 19:44.2. Texas Tech's Rose Tanui finished in third with a time of 20:19.

Shocker Scarla Nero finished 34th overall in 21:33.5 and Patrober Murindat was 35th in 21:34.2. Samantha Shukla was 60th overall in 22:02.7 for Wichita State.

Saturday marked the end of the regular season for the Shockers. The Wichita State men's team competed Friday at the Bradley Classic. To read more about the Shocker men's finish Friday, click here.
