Shockers Host SpringHill Suites Classic
Wichita State will host the SpringHill Suites Shocker Classic this weekend.  The Shockers will face Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 3 and take on Portland at 7 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 4.

Series History vs. Tourney Field
The Shockers are 3-4 all-time against the 2010 tourney field:
Stephen F. Austin -  2-3
Portland -  1-1

Scouting Stephen F. Austin
The Ladyjacks are currently 2-2 overall with a win over Butler and losses at Baylor and against SMU over the weekend and a win over ULM on Tuesday.  Mary Caitlin Bottles leads the team with a 3.41 kills per set average, while Allison Gideon averages 8.94 assists per set and Madison Hanlan averages 5.00 digs per set.  SFA finshed 24-13 in 2009 and 11-5 in the Southland.  The Ladyjacks return four starters and seven letterwinners and is picked to finish second in the West Division in the Southland.  SFA is led by 23rd-year head coach  Debbie Humphreys.

Scouting Portland
The Pilots are currently 1-2 overall with a win at Oregon State and losses against Illinois State and Sacramento State over the weekend.  Ariel Usher leads the team with a 3.50 kills per set average, while Madison Smith averages 10.00 assists per set and Danielle Dupar averages 4.83 digs per set.  UP finished 6-23 in 2009 and 2-12 in the West Coast Conference.  The Pilots return three starters and eight letterwinners and is picked to finish seventh in the WCC.  UP is led by third-year head coach Joe Houck.

Home Openers
Wichita State is 19-14-1 in home openers overall and 8-2 in home openers under head coach Chris Lamb.  The two losses were in 2001 and 2004.  The Shockers have won the last five home openers overall.

Season Openers
With the win over Oklahoma on Aug. 27, Wichita State is now 17-16-2 in season openers overall and 8-3 in season openers under head coach Chris Lamb.  The Shockers have won the last six openers overall.

Waldorf Valuable in First Tourney
Sarah Waldorf led the Shockers to a 2-1 record at the Nike Invitational in Norman, Okla., and the tournament championship.  Waldorf averaged 4.91 digs, 0.27 kills, 0.64 assists and 0.18 aces per set and was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.  She also had a perfect serve reception percentage in a team-high 66 total attempts.  On Friday against Oklahoma, she had 10 digs, one kill and three assists.  On Saturday against Miami, she had a match-high and a career-high 26 digs along with one kill, three assists and a service ace.  In the finale against UT-Arlington, she totaled a match-high 18 digs along with one kill, one assist and one service ace.

Three Named to All-Tournament Team
Three Shockers were named to the all-tournament team at the Nike Invitational.  Camri Zwiesler and Amanda Backes were both named to the team, while Sarah Waldorf earned MVP honors.

Zwiesler Makes Impact
Junior transfer Camri Zwiesler made an impact in her first action as a Shocker this weekend at the Nike Invitational in Norman, Okla.  She averaged 3.64 kills, 0.18 aces and 2.64 digs per set while hitting .302 on the left side.  She earned all-tournament team honors and had a career-high 16 kills against UT-Arlington.  She also had a career-high 15 digs against Miami and hit a career-best .406 against UTA.

Blocking Impressive Over the Weekend
The Shocker blocking game was impressive over the weekend.  In the three matches, the Shockers averaged 2.73 blocks per set.  Senior Sarah McGee led the way with three solo blocks and 17 assists to average 1.82 blocks per set.

Newcomers See First Action
Five Shockers made their Wichita State debut this weekend in Norman, Okla.  Junior transfer Camri Zwiesler along with redshirt freshmen Chelsey Feekin, Elizabeth Field, Katie Vogts and Sam Sanders all saw action in the Nike Invitational.
