Box Score PROVO, Utah - Emily Adney's career-high 17 kills powered
Wichita State to a three-set win over Loyola Marymount. The Shockers (5-2) won by scores of 25-23,
25-19 and 25-23.
Camri Zwiesler added 15 kills, while Sarah McGee had seven
kills, 10 digs and hit .583. Mary
Elizabeth Hooper finished with 45 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 11 digs.
The Shockers got off to a fast start in the first set and
grabbed a 6-2 lead after a kill from Emily Adney. Back-to-back kills from Camri
Zwiesler increased the lead to 12-7, but LMU scored five-straight to take a
17-16 lead. The two teams traded points
until three-straight Shocker kills put WSU in front 21-18. The Lions answered with three-straight points
to tie it at 21. A Sarah McGee kill, a
Lion hitting error and a Zwiesler kill gave WSU a 24-21 advantage and the
Shockers held on to win the set 25-23.
LMU took an early 7-5 lead in the second set before the
Shockers responded to take a 13-8 lead after a service ace from Adney. LMU pulled to within 17-16, but WSU went on a
5-0 run to take a 22-16 lead. The
Shockers closed out the set 25-19 after an LMU hitting error.
The two teams raced out to a 9-9 tie in the third set before
the Lions grabbed a 17-13 lead. With LMU
leading 20-16, the Shockers used two kills from Zwiesler and two blocks to tie
the score at 20. The two teams then went
back-and-forth until the Shockers scored the final three points on an Adney
kill, a block by Elizabeth Field and Mary Elizabeth Hooper and a service ace by
Sarah Waldorf to win the set 25-23.
The Shockers are next in action at 8:30 p.m. tonight against
BYU.
