DES MOINES, Iowa- Wichita State (10-18, 1-5) split Saturday's doubleheader at  Drake (20-9, 3-2), taking a 1-0 win in game one before falling 8-0 in game two on Friday afternoon at Buel Field.

Game One

Sophomore Kasha Kolb tossed a complete game shutout to give Wichita State (10-17, 1-4) a 1-0 win over Drake for its first Missouri Valley Conference win and snap a seven-game losing streak.

The Shockers threatened right out of the gate. Lindsie Mitts drew a leadoff walk and stole second, her ninth steal of the season. Heather Gerritse drew a two-out walk but DU starter Jenna DeLong got out of the jam when Kiersten Dixon lined out to center.

Kolb allowed just two base runners in the first four innings.

After stranding two more runners in the fourth, WSU broke through in the fifth. With one out, Mitts reached on a fielding error by DeLong and stole her second base of the game. Head coach Mike Perniciaro called on sophomore Hilary Fort to pinch hit for Kersti Rowan.

Playing just minutes from her hometown of Ankeny, Fort came through and ripped a double to the gap in right-center to break the scoreless tie and give WSU a 1-0 advantage.

Kolb ran into trouble in the sixth after walking leadoff hitter Molly McClelland. Kelsey Kahler pinch ran for McClelland and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. But Kolb got Elena Leon and Lindsey Vande Wall to strikeout to end the inning.

Kolb pitched out of on more jam in the seventh. A hit from Erin Mollohan and a hit batter put runners on first and second with two outs. But Kolb got Torey Craddock to foul out to first baseman Hayley Temple to end the game.

The Chelsea, Okla., native went the distance for her second complete game shutout of the season in improving to 5-9. She finished with eight strikeouts.

Offensively, Fort's pinch hit double was her second extra base hit of the season while her RBI was her first of the year.

DeLong took the loss for the Bulldogs, falling to 10-4.

Game Two

Brynne Dordel allowed just one hit while the Drake offense put up eight runs in a 8-0 win in game two of the doubleheader.

The Shockers failed to convert a scoring opportunity in the first. A walk and throwing error put runners on second and third with nobody out. After a groundout, Heather Gerritse flied to left. Mitts tried to score from third but left fielder Kelsey Kahler threw a strike to catcher Erin Mollohan who applied the tag on Mitts for the third out.

DU cashed in on its scoring opportunity in the bottom half of the inning, although WSU was able to limit the damage. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs after a walk and two singles. A force out at home kept the bases loaded for Bridget Shields, who delivered with an RBI groundout to short. WSU starter Brianna Smet got Lindsey Vande Wall to ground out to third to end the inning with DU up 1-0.

The Bulldogs added five in the second after loading the bases with three-straight hits to start the inning. Erin Bly delivered a two-RBI single in the inning that helped give DU a 6-0 lead.

DU tacked on two runs in the fifth for an 8-0 lead.

The Shockers failed to extend the game, going down in order in the fifth.
