WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State baseball student-athlete Cody Lassley has been named one of the Prairie Farms Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 1-7. Amanda Clack of Bradley is the other honoree.
Now in its 11th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies. On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
A catcher for the Wichita State baseball team, Lassley, a senior from Wichita, Kan., batted .714 (10-for-14) with a double, a triple, two home runs, four runs batted in and eight runs scored, as the Shockers went 4-1 on the week, defeating North Dakota twice (18-1 and 5-2) and taking two of three from Florida Gulf Coast (winning 5-3 and 15-3 and losing 7-2).
Lassley, who has a 3.36 cumulative grade-point average in sociology, went 3-for-3 with a homer and five runs scored in an 18-1 win over North Dakota on March 2. On March 6, he went 3-for-4 with a triple, a homer and an RBI in a 5-3 triumph over FGCU.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
