WICHITA --  Michelle Price scored the first bucket for Wichita State University and added 14 more counters as the women's basketball team won its record tying 12th home contest with a 68-43 win over the University of Evansville Friday night in a Missouri Valley Conference match-up.

WSU improves to 15-11 on the year and 7-8 in the Valley.  Evansville drops to 4-23 and 1-15 in the conference.

Chyna Turner paced the Shockers with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Michelle Price had 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field.

Samantha Heck led the Purple Aces with 13 points.  Chelsea Falkenstein had a team best seven rebounds to go along with six points for UE.

With the win the Shockers have tied a school record for most home wins in a season with 12.  Wichita State will be able to break that five year old record on Sunday afternoon when WSU hosts Southern Illinois.  Tip-off is slated for 2:05 p.m.

The Shockers went on a 12-0 run to start the game as Turner recorded five points while Price added another four points and two blocks to the WSU attack.  Wichita State shot 83 percent in the first four minutes of the game (5-of-6) while Evansville went 0-for-6 from the field.

The WSU defense continued to stymie the Evansville offense as the Purple Aces went without a score until the 14 minute mark in the first half.  Amber Boyd dropped in a bucket from just behind the charity stripe to end the scoring drought for Evansville while Kaylan Martin added another basket to cut the Shocker lead down to 10 (15-5, 12:11 remaining in the first).

Price and the Shockers continued to pour on the offense as WSU went up 21-8 thanks to another five points from the freshman forward while Turner added four more points.

Price had nine points, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal for the Shockers in the first 10 minutes of the contest and ended the half with a team best 12 points.

Turner had 11 points and a team high seven boards.  Senior guard Marisah Henderson had six points on a pair of three-pointers to go along with five assists.

The Shockers offense stalled in the beginning of the second half as WSU was only 3-of-10 from the field in the first eight minutes.  Evansville was able to claw back into the game as the Purple Aces were 5-of-11 during that span to move to within 11 of tying the game (44-33, 11:55 remaining).

Sheena Johnson made sure the visiting team was unable to get any closer as the junior guard hit a fall away jumper, plus one, to push Wichita State back up 50-37 (7:41 left to play).

The two teams battled back and forth for the next five minutes until freshman guard Jessica Diamond erupted for five unanswered points to put the Shockers up 61-43.

Buckets from Price and Morgan Boyd along with baskets from the free-throw line by Diamond and Dannah Kemp closed out the scoring for Wichita State.

Evansville turned the ball over 29 times with the Shockers collecting 19 steals.

Diamond finished with 11 points and six assists.

Henderson had nine points and five assists for WSU in the win.
