• The Wichita State women's basketball team looks to improve on its 9-1 home record as they host Illinois State on Dollar Day at Charles Koch Arena on Saturday.
• The Shockers will be looking to give head coach Jody Adams her first win over the Redbirds. WSU last defeated ILS at home on Feb. 12, 2007.
• Saturday's game against Ilinois State can be heard on KNSS 1330 AM with Brian Petrotta in his second season as play-by-play man for Shocker women's basketball. Tip-off between the Shockers and Redbirds is at 2:05 p.m.
• Wichita State has been great at home so far in the 2009-10 season. The Shockers are averaging 65.1 points at home while limiting opponents to just 56.1 points in Charles Koch Arena. Those trends will have to continue in order to beat an Illinois State team that was picked second in the conference and is 5-2 on the road this season.
•
Jessica Diamond continues to provide a spark for the Shockers off the bench. Her hot shooting helped ignite an 18-7 run and a 15-0 run to erase a 20-point second half deficit and defeat Indiana State, 65-61, on Thursday. The freshman from Houston finished with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc.
•
Haleigh Lankster continued to do a little bit of everything for the Shockers on Thursday. She finished with a game-high 17 points but it was her defense that stood out. Lankster came away with four steals and led the team in rebounding for the first time this season, pulling down six boards.
• The 20-point deficit was by far the largest lead overcome for a victory for the Shockers under Jody Adams. Prior to Thursday the largest comeback win under Adams was a 13-point deficit at home against UNI. Earlier this season, WSU trailed UMKC by 12 in the Bahamas before pulling out a win.
• Illinois State is coming off a 69-53 win over Indiana State last Friday. The Redbirds will see game action for the first time in eight days when they visit Koch Arena on Saturday. ILS is led by preseason all-MVC guard Maggie Krick's 17.4 points per game, which ranks second in the conference. Ashleen Bracey and Nicolle Lewis join her in double figures at 12.5 ppg and 10.9 ppg, respecively. The Redbirds rank in the league's top four in offense (67.9 ppg) and defense (allowing 62.4 ppg) and sport the conference's best free throw percentage.
