Box Score WICHITA, Kan.- Amanda Backes recorded a match-high eight kills as No. 25 Wichita State hit .433 en route to a sweep over Grambling State, 25-7, 25-10, 25-14, to improve to 4-1 on the season Saturday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.
The Shockers took control of the match early in the first set, rattling off an 11-3 run highlighted by an ace from Sarah Waldorf. WSU cruised the rest of the way and took the set 25-7.
WSU picked up right where it left off with another 11-3 run, capped by a kill from Stephanie Tokarz, to start the second set. Emily Stockman and Kim Wadsworth recorded back-to-back aces as part of a 10-3 run to close out the set, 25-10.
Long runs continued to be the theme in the third set. Melissa Granville had two aces in a 13-2 run to start the set. From there it was all WSU as it took the set 25-14, and the match 3-0.
Redshirt freshmen Dana Loganbill and Jada Witham each saw their first action as a Shocker. Loganbill recorded a kill on her first swing while Witham teamed with Mary Elizabeth Hooper for a block.
The Shockers are back in action tonight as they take on Oklahoma (5-1) at 7:30 p.m.
