ST. LOUIS -- Emily Stockman of Wichita State University and Johannes Demarzi of Missouri State University have been selected the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  Stockman and Demarzi were honored for their performance during the period of September 14-20.

Now in its 11th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies.  On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

An outside hitter for the 20th-ranked Wichita State volleyball team, Stockman, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., earned Missouri Valley Conference offensive player-of-the-week honors while leading the Shockers to three-set sweeps of Indiana State (Sept. 18) and Illinois State (Sept. 19).

Stockman, who has a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science, averaged 5.17 kills, 0.33 aces, 3.33 digs, 1.33 blocks and 6.50 points per set while hitting .394 on the left side.  Versus Indiana State, she compiled her fifth double-double of the season, posting a match-high 15 kills and a team-best 12 digs.

To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.  Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.  In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
