EVANSVILLE, Ind. -The No. 72 Wichita State women's tennis team remained undefeated with a convincing 7-0 win over Evansville Saturday afternoon at the Carson Center Courts in Evansville, Ind.
The Shockers set the tone for the day by earning a dominating sweep of the Purple Aces in doubles play. Anna Egorova and Stephanie Dalmacio had the closest match of the day in doubles play, earning an 8-3 decision over Evansville's Kate Chybowski and Theodora Kotsiou in the No. 1 match. Lenore Lazaroiu and Laryssa Ferreira defeated UE's Pin Sorensen and Ashton Schwerin, 8-1, to win the No. 2 match, while Florentina Hanisch and Torrie Browning completed the sweep with an 8-2 decision over Allie Cox and Stephanie Millis in the No. 3 match.
Wichita State dropped just one set in doubles play when Evansville sophomore standout Kate Chybowski won the first set against WSU's Anna Egorova, but Egorova rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 win in the No. 1 match. Playing at the No. 2 spot for the first time this season, Torrie Browning defeated Ashton Schwerin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while Stephanie Dalmacio carded a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 decision over Theadora Kotsiou in the No. 3 match. Lenore Lazaroiu downed Pin Sorensen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 4 match, while Florentina cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win over Allie Cox in the No. 5 match. Laryssa Ferreira completed the Shocker sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Stephanie Millis in the No. 6 match.
The Shockers look for their fifth Valley win of the season Sunday when they travel to Carbondale, Ill., to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis.
