ST. LOUIS -- Bryce Forward of Wichita State University was selected as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Forward was honored for his performance during the period of September 1-7.
A member of the Wichita State men's cross country team, Forward, a senior from Hugoton, Kan., placed sixth in the 60th Annual J.K. Gold Classic at Augusta, Kan., while leading the Shockers to a second-place team finish.
Forward, who has a 3.658 cumulative grade-point average in business administration, battled pouring rain and a muddy course to post a career-best 6K time of 19:39.78.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
