BEIJING -- Former Wichita State triple jump All-American Randy Lewis finished 15th in the preliminary round of the triple jump at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Lewis, competing for his native Grenada, jumped 17.06 meters (55-11 3/4) in Pool B of the event to miss making finals by just four centimeters. Athletes must jump at least 17.10m or be in the top 12 of the preliminary round. Lewis was sixth in his pool, but was 15th overall.
During his time at WSU, Lewis became one of the best jumpers in Shocker history, earning All-America honors three times. He won four Missouri Valley Conference individual titles, while helping the Shockers to consecutive outdoor team titles in 2002 and 2003. Lewis also owns the Shocker triple jump records in both indoor (53-5 1/2) and outdoor (55-1 1/2).
