ARDMORE, Okla. -- The Wichita State men's golf team used a true team effort, pushing its way to a third place finish at The Maxwell, which concluded Sunday at the Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla. Four strokes was all that separated first from fifth on the Shocker team scorecard as WSU posted a third-placed team tally of 819 (-21).
The Shockers finished with a two-stroke cushion on Oklahoma Christian University, and were seven-strokes back of second-placed Michigan. Oklahoma State won the event with a final stroke count of 809.
Ryan Spears and Dustin Garza each recorded 54-hole scores of 212 (+2) in the event, and occupied two places in the three-way tie for ninth. Connor McHenry was two strokes back with a 214 (+4) and finished tied for 13th in the 60-player field. Ty Sanders was just one stroke back with a 215 (+5), good enough for an 18th-place tie. Zac Potter rounded out the Shocker scorecard, finishing tied for 21st with a three-round score of 216 (+6).
Competing as an individual, Brad Boan finished in 58th by posting a 233 (+23).
After returning to Wichita Sunday night, the Shockers will hit the road Tuesday, on their way to Columbus, Ohio for the 2008 NCAA Central Regional Golf Championship, which will be played May 15-17 at The Ohio State University's Scarlet Golf Course.
