WICHITA, Kan. -- The Wichita State women's tennis team notched its third straight home win Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over Saint Louis University at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
The Shockers jumped out to the early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles competition. The WSU tandem of Stephanie Dalmacio and Laryssa Ferreira defeated SLU's Hailee Elmore and Joe Becker 8-6 in the No. 1 match, while the No. 2 team of Anna Egorova and Lenore Lazaroiu followed suit with an 8-6 win over SLU's Tara Grant and Casey Miller. The Shocker team of Florentina Hanisch and Torrie Browning added some insurance with an 8-1 win over SLU's Caitlin Bokulic and Caitlin McKenna in the No. 3 match.
WSU continued to roll in singles play, dropping just one of six matches to the Billikens. Stephanie Dalmacio opened play with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Hailee Elmore in the No. 1 match, and was followed by Anna Egorova, who defeated Casey Miller 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 match. The No. 3 singles match went to WSU's Florentina Hanisch in a 7-6 (4), 6-3 decision over Joe Becker, while Lenore Lazaroiu defeated Tara Grant 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 match. In the No. 5 singles match, Torrie Browning defeated Rachel McCullagh 6-0, 6-2.
The Billikens' only win cam in the No. 6 match, when Caitlin McKenna defeated Laryssa Ferreira in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3).
With the win the Shockers improve to 7-5 on the season. They will be back in action Sunday when nationally-ranked South Alabama pays a visit to the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. Sunday's first serve is slated for noon.
