SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Wichita State men's golf team notched a fourth-place finish in its first tournament of the spring season at the UTSA Intercollegiate in San Antonio. The Shockers posted a three-round score of 875 (288-298-289), and finished just two strokes back of second-placed Texas Tech, and one stroke behind third-placed Oklahoma. Mississippi State won the event with a final tally of 864 (292-275-297).

Senior Ryan Spears was one of three Shockers to post their best score of the event in the tournament's final round. Spears posted a 69 to finish in second place with a 54-hole total of 213 (72-72-69). Ty Sanders and Connor McHenry also shot their best round scores in Monday's final round. Sanders' score of 70 allowed him to finish tied for 25th with a final count of 222 (76-76-70), while McHenry fired a 75 on his way to a final score of 227 (76-76-75) and finished tied for 47th.

After being tied for eighth after two rounds, Dustin Garza posted a 75 in his final round to finish tied for 12th with a final tally of 219, while Zac Potter found himself tied for 63rd with a 54-hole sum of 231 (70-81-80).

Brad Boan competed as an individual for the Shockers and finished tied for 50th with a 228 (79-77-72).

Next weekend the Shockers travel to Orlando, Fla. where they will compete in the Rio Pinar Invitational, hosted by the University of Central Florida.
