WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State University cross country track and field teams travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-National meet, hosted by Indiana State University on Sat., Oct 18.
The Shocker women, led by seniors
Kellyn Johnson and Kimber Lemon, are ranked 10th in the Midwest Region at this point in the season. WSU is one of five Missouri Valley Conference teams in the rankings, behind only no. 8 Missouri State. Southern Illinois checks in at no. 13, while UNI is 14th and Illinois State is 15th.
Johnson, who is working her way back from an injury, placed 15th at the Cowboy Jamboree in her first meet back after three weeks off. Meanwhile, Lemon, who missed last season due to injury, has gotten stronger as the course of the season has progressed. The senior placed 26th at the Cowboy Jamboree.
On the men's side, newcomer
Marius Sava has joined the combination of senior
Scott Reed and freshman
Trace Kendrick to give the Shockers a boost at the top. The Shocker men cracked the Midwest Regional rankings at no. 15, while Valley foes SIU (6th), Illinois State (9th) and Drake (10th) are also ranked. Indiana State is ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Region.
In his first meet as a Shocker, Sava was the top WSU finisher, placing 37th at the Cowboy Jamboree. Reed and Kendrick weren't far behind in 41st and 47th.
The NCAA Pre-National meet will begin at 11 a.m. in Terre Haute, Ind.
