WICHITA, Kan.--Coach Gregg Marshall and players discuss the Southern Illinois game.
Marshall on the game: “We couldn't overcome the start, we never could get over the hump. We cut it to one, and then a multitude of things happened that went against us. Once we got it to one, they made some plays and some shots. We couldn't overcome the bad start.”
Marshall on feeling as if his team made a step forward despite the loss: “Not right out of the gate. I thought there were some positives. J.T. Durley's first half offensively and, for that matter, most of the game. Mantas Griskenas, when he was in the score went in the right direction. (Graham) Hatch competed, but just didn't make shots. David Kyles played pretty well in his 10 minutes.”
Marshall on J.T. Durley's performance: “He was pretty good tonight. He had 19 points in 28 minutes with four offensive rebounds. His defense was pretty good. He was certainly a positive.”
Sophomore Graham Hatch on seeing positives in the last four games: “With the streak that we're on right now, it's really hard to see those positive things, but that's what being an athlete is all about. You?ve just got to fight back and keep going because you never know what's going to happen. That's our attitude in the locker room. We're not going to give up, we're going to fight back and get better. That's one thing Coach Marshall always does, he gets us right back on it.”
Red shirt sophomore J.T. Durley on WSU's defense: "We knew No. 1 could shoot it. I believe he's leading the conference in field goal and three-point field goal percentage. we knew Mullins was a decent shooter and could hit the big shot. That's what's they came out to do. They hit big shots. After we went our run and came back to cut it to one, they went on a rampage."
