CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- UNI (6-10, 2-3) used eight 3-pointers and a cold shooting night from Wichita State (6-12, 0-6) to race past the Shockers, 63-30, Saturday night inside the McLeod Center.

UNI won its 18th-straight game against the Shockers, and sent WSU to its sixth-straight loss and an 0-6 mark in Valley action, the worst start in conference play since 1989-90 when WSU was a member of the Gateway Conference.

Kyrie Kinder led the Shockers with nine points as WSU managed to shoot just 17-percent from the floor on the night. Traci Ollendieck led UNI with 18 points.

Both teams started the game sluggish on offense as the first 10 points of the game were at the free-throw line, while combining to go 0-for-9 from the field in the opening minutes.

Jacie Hoyt's 12-footer with 14:45 left was the first field goal of the half for either team cutting an early four-point deficit to two before UNI ripped off an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 15-5 edge by the 11-minute mark of the first half.

WSU went just 1-for-12 from the field over the opening 10 minutes before heating up with five points from Samantha Smith and a 18-footer from Kyrie Kinder, but UNI had an answer for every bucket and led 24-12 following a Danielle Wubbens 3-pointer with 7:34 left in the half.

The Panthers extended the lead to as many as 16 in the final minutes of the first to take a 37-21 advantage into the break.

UNI began the half 3-for-9 from the field and finished it by going 7-for-12 to shoot 48-percent for the opening frame. The Panthers connected on 4-of-10 3-pointers and was 13-for-15 at the free-throw line in the half. The Shockers shot 25-percent from the floor in the first, while facing a three rebound deficit on the glass.

Kiki Stephens picked up three fouls in the final two minutes of the half and picked up her fourth :52 seconds into the second half, limiting her play over the final 19 minutes of the game.

With Stephens on the bench WSU managed to hold the Panthers to just a 1-for-10 effort from the floor in the opening minutes of the second frame, but could not manage to make a dent in the double-digit deficit. Back-to-back 3-pointers by UNI stretched the Panther advantage to their largest of the game 46-23, with just under 15 minutes left to play.

The Shockers could never recover as UNI extended the lead to as many as 30 down the stretch to send the Shockers to an 0-6 start to Valley play. Wichita State was held scoreless over the final 11:44 of the game and scored just nine points in the second half.

WSU returns to action at 7 p.m., Friday against Indiana State inside Charles Koch Arena.
