Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii ? Sara Lungren's 14 kills powered the Shockers (5-2) to a sweep of No. 19 Santa Clara (5-2) in the first match of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Volleyball Challenge. The Shockers won by scores of 30-26, 30-23 and 30-19.
Lungren hit .294 in the match and also added seven digs. Abby Harsh had 34 assists, seven digs, four blocks and five kills, while Emily Stockman had 12 kills, 18 digs and a career-high five service aces.
The teams went back-and-forth in game one until the Shockers took a 17-14 lead on a kill by Sara Lungren. The Broncos responded with three-straight points to tie it at 17, but WSU scored four in a row to go up 21-17. The Shockers reached game point at 29-25 and won the game 30-26 on a kill by Stephanie Tokarz.
A kill by Katie Niggemeyer gave the Shockers an early 8-5 lead in game two and a Shocker block increased the lead to 11-6. The Broncos came back to tie it at 12 and the teams traded points until the Shockers took a 19-16 lead on a block. WSU led the rest of the way and took a 30-23 win.
The Shockers raced out to a 13-10 lead after a kill by Abby Harsh and increased it to 15-10 on a Lungren kill. Three Emily Stockman service aces put the Shockers up 19-10 and WSU cruised to a 30-19 victory in game three.
WSU next plays No. 16 Hawaii at 11:55 p.m. on Friday and finishes the tourney with Eastern Washington at 10 p.m. on Saturday.
