Kellyn Johnson was named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Athlete-of-the-Week for her performance during the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.
Johnson, a junior, raced past the field at the 59th Annual J.K. Gold Classic to win her Shocker cross country debut. Johnson took title honors at the RAFT Golf Course in Augusta, Kan., beating the field by 21 seconds with a 4K time of 13:50. The Cloud County [Kan.] CC transfer led a 1-2-3 Shocker finish to help WSU to their third Gold Classic team title in a row.
The honor marks the third time in Johnson's career that she has named MVC Athlete-of-the-Week. She earned the award in back-to-back weeks during the 2007 outdoor track and field season.
