WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State University cross country also had runners compete at the Cowboy Jamboree on the campus of Oklahoma State University. The Shocker women were led by Grace McCarron, while
Girts Azis led the men.
McCarron finished in 46th place with a 5K time of 19:33 for the Shockers, who finished 16th as a team.
Megan Gayer finished in a time of 19:58 for 64th place and freshman
Kelsey Witherspoon placed 82nd with a time of 20:20.
Azis, the top finisher for the Shockers at last year's MVC championships, placed 71st in his first action of the season. Azis completed the 8K course in a time of 26:32.
Hector Castaneda (28:14) finished in 120th and
Nick Garcia (28:24) was 124th to round out the Shocker men's team at the event.
The Shockers will have a week off before taking on nationally-ranked teams at the NCAA Pre-National at the site of this year's NCAA Championships, Terre Haute, Ind.
