Kingston, R.I. -- The Wichita State men's golf team claimed its second-straight tournament championship with a win at the Adams Cup of Newport, hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Junior Zac Potter's three-round score of 220 paced the Shockers to an 11-stroke win over Southern Mississippi.
Senior Ryan Spears and junior Ty Sanders were the only other Shockers to finish in the tournament's top 10. The tandem tied for seventh with identical 54-hole scores of 223. Sophomore Dustin Garza carded a 226 final tally, and finished tied for 19th, while sophomore Connor McHenry posted a 230 in his first outing of the 2007-08 season.
Wichita State will shoot for a third tournament title Oct. 1-2 when they compete in the VCU Shootout.
