STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State (21-19) got a complete-game shutout from Anna Whiddon as the Cowgirls sent the Wichita State softball team (16-22) to its fifth-straight loss with a 4-0 win over the Shockers Tuesday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls opened the scoring with a run in the first after leadoff hitter Shanel Scott reached on a walk, stole second and eventually scored on a passed ball to give OSU a 1-0 lead after one. It would be all the offense Whiddon (9-5) would need, as she shined in the circle, limiting the Shockers to just three hits in the complete game shutout.
The Shockers threatened in the second as Kara L'Huillier reached on a walk, but the Shocker catcher thrown out at home trying to score from first on a Lindsie Mitts double to right center, ending the inning.
Starter Ashly Bright (4-9) finished her night by working four innings, giving up two runs on two hits, while walking five and striking out two. She turned duties over to Margo Pruis in the fifth, who worked the final two innings by giving up two runs on two hits while walking one and hitting one.
OSU tacked on two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, but the Shockers had no answer as Whiddon limited WSU to just two baserunners over the final five innings.
WSU is next in action when it hosts No. 17 Illinois State this weekend at Wilkins Stadium.
