WICHITA- The Wichita State women's basketball team opened the 2007-08 season in style with a 93-54 win over the Oklahoma Flyers in WSU's lone exhibition game of the season Thursday night in front of 1,321 fans inside Charles Koch Arena.

Senior Kyrie Kinder led the way for the Shockers, scoring a game-high 20 points, while Taylor Steven nailed four long balls on her way to 12 points in a game that was dominated by a high-powered offensive display that featured a mixture of transition baskets and well-executed half-court sets.

The Shockers opened the game on a 5-0 run following a Kinder three-pointer before the Flyers got on the board with their first basket by Jamie Fithian. Andrea Cossey's three-pointer with 17:52 left cut the Shocker lead to 7-5, but the Shockers responded with a 10-0 run over the next three-plus minutes to take a 17-5 lead following a Kinder basket with just over 14 minutes left in the half.

Half of the Shockers' first 21 points came off seven Flyers turnovers, including back-to-back transition baskets by Stephens and Kinder that opened the Shockers' lead to 21-7 with just over 13 minutes left.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Taylor Steven opened the Shocker lead to 20 points, as WSU took a 31-11 lead with just over nine minutes left in the first. WSU outscored the Flyers 23-7 over the remainder of the half putting the game out of reach with a 53-18 halftime advantage.

WSU shot nearly 60 percent in the first half, and was 6-for-10 from three-point range in the first frame alone. The Shockers limited the Flyers to just a 6-for-26 effort from the field in the first, while forcing 18 turnovers.

The Flyers opened the second half on an 8-2 run, but the Shockers quickly responded to push the lead back out to 37 points when a Daria Frazier free throw gave WSU a 60-23 edge with just under 15 minutes left in the game. Kinder's second three of the game gave WSU a 40-point advantage and the Shockers never looked back en route to the win.

WSU's freshman class was productive in the game, combining for 17 of the team's 93 points. Jennifer DeGarmo scored seven points while Jadhonn Kerr added four. Every Shocker in uniform scored in the win.

WSU opens the regular-season on Nov. 12 at home against Texas Southern.
