LUFKIN, Texas - The Wichita State men?s golf team won its third tournament
of the season, and did so in convincing fashion at the Bill Hill Crown
Classic. The Shockers finished 27 strokes ahead of second placed Oklahoma
Christian University in the 10-team event, which concluded Tuesday at Crown
Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas.
Senior
Ryan Spears took home the individual title with a three-round score
of 206 (67-70-69), his second individual title of the season, while junior
Ty Sanders grabbed second place with a 54-hole total of 210 (72-67-71).
Sophomores
Connor McHenry and
Dustin Garza also finished in the top 10.
McHenry carded a 215 (66-75-74) through three rounds and finished tied for
fourth, while Garza was one stroke behind, tied for sixth with a 54-hole
count of 216 (71-71-74). Junior
Zac Potter finished tied for 19th with a
final score of 223 (76-73-74).
The Shockers shot a nine-under-par 845 as a team, and finished as the only
sub-par team in the tournament. Second placed Oklahoma Christian was 27
strokes back with a final score of 872.
Wichita State wraps up its fall season with a trip to San Diego Oct. 20-23
when they will compete in the Sycuan Collegiate Invitational at Willow Glen
Golf Course.
